Braces don’t hurt, but getting them tightened may be uncomfortable for the first week or two. This is perfectly normal and should not warrant concern or treatment (unless it’s severe). If you’ve had braces before, they may feel more intense than before because they’ll likely need to be tightened more than your original braces were – remember that this will go away after a little time with the adjustment period. You will appreciate keeping an extra toothbrush at school (just in case!) and will most likely want to use non-whitening mouthwash to clean around brackets and wires. Fluoride remineralization products can help reduce the likelihood of new cavities forming.
